The Game

This is an original drama-comedy stage play.

Main Idea

It’s football season, and at this rate, the Louisville Blues just have to hope the NFL starts giving out rings for the longest losing streak. As the season progresses and tensions rise, five football wives confront what it really means to live life Sunday to Sunday in the shadows of The Game.

Main Conflict

When the Wives’ Group leader is diagnosed with a degenerative disease, the entire group starts to question the sacrifices they’ve made for football–and their husbands.

Cast

Colleen Dreyher (40s) - “Veteran” football wife. Her husband, #72, has been with the Louisville Blues for 11 years, and the pair is only one season away from retirement. Until then, her recent ALS diagnosis is something she wants to keep under wraps.

Tabitha Butler (30s) - A self-appointed single mom, despite having been married to #19 for ten years. When his 19’s injury sidelines him for the rest of the season, she has to learn how to have a husband again.

Natasha Rivera (30s) - Fairly new to the NFL world. Grew up four doors from #25 in downtown Los Angeles. Now having married one of the highest paid, up-and-coming players in the league, she’s struggling to contend with his growing materialism.

Krystal Thompson (21) - The only girlfriend of the group. A junior in high school when she met #54, she starts questioning what her life would be like if she’d never snuck into that frat party five years ago.

Jillian Davis (20s) - Brand new to the NFL. Having just quit her nursing job, this season forces her to examine how much of herself she’s willing to lose to keep #37 and play The Game.

Staging Notes: Video projections (and accompanying audio) of football games are used as transitions between scenes.
